Three People Safe and Uninjured Following Float-plane Crash

Sunshine Coast RCMP is calling it a miracle that no one was hurt in a float-plane crash near Sechelt.

The plane went down just before 1 pm yesterday and Constable Karen Whitby said thanks to the help of others on the water, the trio escaped uninjured.

“There was a tugboat nearby and it was able to release its load and pick up the three people in the water, there were no injuries, [it’s] a miracle that nobody was hurt,” said Whitby. “A hovercraft was deployed and it picked up the three people from the tugboat and brought them to Davis Bay shore where our emergency personnel was on the scene. They were all taken to hospital for assessment.”

Whitby said the Transportation Safety Board is investigating the cause of the crash.

RCMP hasn’t confirmed who owned the plan or where it took off from.
