Finally, something positive when it comes to the opioid crisis, as overdose deaths are down 30 percent.
For a period ending in May, there were a little more than 460 overdose deaths, down 30 percent from the more than 650 last year.
The North Shore-Coast Garibaldi area, which includes the Sunshine Coast, has seen 11 drug deaths in the first five months of this year, with a total of 41 all of last year.
Fentanyl continues to be a huge factor in these deaths, as it was found in 83 per cent of cases in 2019.
Vancouver Coastal Health says Powell River has the second-highest overdose rates in the health authority, behind only Vancouver.
