CVRD and Cowichan Tribes Receive Funding

The federal and provincial governments have announced the recipients of funding to help restore wild fish stocks.

The Cowichan Valley Regional District and Cowichan Tribes are on the list of 23 proposals selected by Federal Fisheries Minister Jonathan Wilkinson and BC Agriculture Minister Lana Popham.

The CVRD and Tribes are going to explore building new water storage infrastructure in Cowichan Lake to provide the flows required to help sustain salmon counts.

The drought conditions have left many salmon fry stranded in pools in Cowichan River tributaries and local groups have taken the initiative to physically move these fry from pools into the larger river.

This funding comes from the BC Salmon Restoration and Innovation Fund.
