Despite the best efforts of emergency crews, a 47-year-old man is dead.
The Sunshine Coast RCMP said the man was kayaking in the islands near Ruby Lake Resort on Sunday when he started suffering medical distress.
People in the area were able to get the man to shore, but he could not be saved.
The BC Coroners Service is investigating.
