HIV Cases Have Fallen Significantly

Vancouver Coastal Health has seen HIV cases drop by 52 percent since 2011 and is expecting to record the lowest frequency of cases since 2003 when HIV became reportable.

Doctors are encouraging people to continue getting tested to further decrease the number of new infections.

Last year, there were 86 cases of HIV in the VCH region, down from 178 cases back in 2011.

As of June 17, 26 cases of new infections have been reported.

People can get tested for HIV for free in a variety of locations including family doctors, walk-in clinics, and hospitals.
