The Sunshine Coast Golf and Country Club is celebrating its 50th anniversary.

After 4 years of planning by a group of local residents, the course officially opening on June 1st, 1969.

Jim Pringle is the Director of Golf and PGA of Canada Head Professional and said volunteers are an important part of the non-profit society that runs the club.

“I think the longstanding theme throughout the club’s history has been volunteerism. Volunteers created the club. A volunteer board of directors continues to lead the club today. I think that’s something that has really added to the pride over the years and the success and longevity of the club.”

The Club is an important part of the community that supports Junior Golf programs and hosts charity events that raise thousands of dollars for local causes.

50th-anniversary celebrations will take place next Saturday (June 29th) and will include a 9 hole golf event, a multimedia presentation, and a dinner and dance.
