The Port Mellon fire is being held

Coastal Fire Information Officer, Donna MacPherson said the work continues now to put it out.

“They were able to put the fire into “being held” category which means they have work all the way around the fire and now they are working on the hard slow work of putting it out. Today we have a 24 crew working on the fire and a couple of water tenders helping them out getting water to the fire as well.”

The fire is 3 kilometers south of Port Mellon and MacPherson says no structures were ever threatened.

The fire started when the wind blew a tree onto a power line and that, MacPherson says, is considered a human-caused fire.
