The Nanaimo RCMP is investigating the theft of 23 sets of specialty tires stolen from Fountain Tire in the 4800 block of Wellington Road.

Mounties say the theft happened around 3:30 in the morning last Wednesday.

The value of the tires is in the thousands of dollars.

Video surveillance showed two masked men cutting through the fence of the compound surrounding the business then they spent a considerable amount of time selecting specialized tires designed to fit Bobcats.

A third person was also involved and was seen driving a light grey full-size Ford F350 extended cab, with a grey canopy.

Employees of Fountain Tire have indicated that most of the tires are specialized so there is a limited market for them and they will not be easily re-sold.

The stolen items consist of the following:

12-16.5 Bossman Gripstell skid tires X 5
10-16.5 Galaxy Beefy Baby III skid tires x 5
2 small turf tires from a lawn tractor, size 25 x 10-12 magnum 12 turf tires
8 285/75R16 Goodyear Duratecs
