Habitat for Humanity on the hunt for property for next build

While the Sunshine Coast may not have to deal with gang violence and rough inner-city neighbourhoods, the region has its own unique problems that can hold families back.

Soaring housing prices and a lack of rental housing means many Sunshine Coast families juggle multiple jobs and still struggle to make ends meet.

Habitat for Humanity Sunshine Coast Executive Director, Ronnalee McMahon said affordable housing is a big step toward a financially stable, healthy life.

“We have two homes that are at lock up that will be ready this fall and then we have two more homes and we will be turning the sod there later this year. So, four homes in Wilson Creek and we are looking for property for our next build.”

McMahon says Train in Trades students help with some of the builds.

Those students have been building garden sheds to go along with the Habitat Homes while earning a credit towards both high school graduation and a post-secondary credential.
