Fundraiser underway to support Coast Car Co-op

The Coast Car Co-op is hoping to raise 10 thousand dollars by the end of Friday.

The former treasurer of the organization, Mark Cameron says he will match the contribution from an inheritance he received from his uncle who was a big supporter of social enterprise.

Cameron says his wife says she too will then put in 5,000 dollars of her own money.

Cameron says he’s always been a big supporter of the Co-op that provides an important service to the community.

He says the money raised will be used to help with the operations of the Coast Car Co-op among other things.

“But also just make sure the vehicles are really well maintained, we’ve done a lot of work this year to make sure our vehicles are up to date. The big one is we have a high kilometre truck that really needs an update. So a really key goal for this is to upgrade to a newer truck. The truck is the most used vehicle in the fleet in terms of the number of bookings. It’s used by the largest number of members, it’s kind of the community truck but it’s got 300 k on it and we need something a lot newer.”

Cameron says more than 100 people rely on Coast Car Co-op vehicles for affordable transportation, and car-sharing reduces the number of vehicles that sit parked on Sunshine Coast roads.

The fundraising campaign has raised around 8,500 dollars so far.
