Some heated moments as the Spring session wrapped up at the Legislature… And Powell River Sunshine Coast MLA Nicholas Simons was in the thick of it.
Simons is the NDP Agriculture Critic, and during the final debate on controversial changes to the Agricultural Land Commission he had to leave the House after an outburst during which he called the government “corrupt liars”.
Simons did eventually withdraw the remarks so he could take part in the final vote, which saw Bill 24 pass.
The NDP says it opens up farmland in the Interior, North and Kootenays to development, but the government says splitting the ALC into two zones will give farmers more flexibility to find fresh ways to bring in some revenue.
