The cardiac unit at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital is down five nurses. They have asked to be transferred since Island’ Health’s Care Delivery Model Redesign was implemented in the fall.
Jo Salken, BC Nurses Union Pacific Rim Regional Chair, says they they felt like they couldn’t keep up with the increased workload after some nurses were replaced by care aides.
Salken says the higher nurse-to-patient ratios are more than they could handle.
Salken and other BCNU representatives were at Island Health’s board meeting on Thursday afternoon in Parksville to reiterate the issues they’re experiencing at NRGH. They also dropped off another 3000 signatures on a petition calling for a stop to CDMR. The new model is currently being rolled out at Victoria area hospitals
