The City of Nanaimo and the Green Thumb Garden Centre will once again provide residents with affordable trees for planting on their property.
Starting this Wednesday, (May 29) 25 dollar vouchers for trees will be available for purchase in the Service and Resource Building on Dunsmuir Street between 8:30 and 4:30.
The vouchers can be redeemed at Green Thumb Garden Centre for a designated tree worth up to 90 dollars in value.
Just 220 vouchers will be available on a first come, first serve basis, there’s a limit of two per property and they are available to owners of properties within the City of Nanaimo only.
City officials said a healthy urban forest canopy provides critical habitat for wildlife, reduces the impacts of global warming, provides storm water abatement, increases property values and helps define the character of the city.
