Yoga classes to continue on Trail Bay Pier, for now

The yoga classes, that take place on the Trail Bay Pier, will continue, for the time being.
The classes are taught by Georgia Cyr of Blissful Yoga Studio.
Cyr says since 2014, when she was given a special events permit from the District of Sechelt, she has taken clients outside in July and August to enjoy the surroundings by offering summer yoga classes.
The problem is, this year when she applied for her annual permit some red flags were raised.
According to staff at the District the pier is leased from the province and the lease prohibits a permit being issued for any person to occupy it.
Cyr was in front of the District to plead her case.
“We share the pier with everyone. So, in the evening there’s usually a pack of kids down there swimming which is awesome, there’s also people fishing, there’s boats coming and going, there’s cyclists and dogs and people who stop to sit on the benches to watch.  Some people walk into the class briefly and snap photos of us so we are very consious of the community and we also welcome it. There’s people welcome and they are coming and going at all times. We are not trying to take over the pier in any way.”
Council has agreed to let Cyr use the pier for this summer while staff clarify with the province whether or not the yoga classes can continue to take place there.
