Nanaimo Council has OK’d the first purchase of property in Linley Valley.
The City’s going to pay 3.5-million dollars for 47 hectares at 3518 Hillside Avenue, as part of a plan to preseve almost 90 hectares as parkland.
The price raised a few eyebrows, but Councillor Bill Bestwick likened the situation to the purchase of Neck Point and he says it’s worth it.
Councillor Bill McKay opposed the deal, and a related budget amendment freeing up nearly 8-million dollars for the land purchases.
