Police seek man who seemed to take exception to a dog approaching him

The Nanaimo RCMP is investigating an incident in which several women out for a walk had an interaction with an unknown man with a knife.

The incident took place at Colliery Dam around 11 this morning.

The woman told police she and another woman were walking in the off-leash area of the park, along with a young child in a stroller and a dog and a puppy.

At one point the dog approached the male who took exception to the interaction and began yelling at her to keep her dog in check.

While yelling, a knife was clearly visible in his hand.

The women left the park and reported the incident but officers were not able to locate the man who did not directly threaten them or make any movements towards them.

The man is described as white, about 65 years old with white hair and was wearing a green jacket.

Police say, at this point, they only want to talk to the man to hear his version of events.
