Supportive housing to open in Sechelt shortly

The new modular supportive housing in Sechelt will be opening before the end of the month.

Isaac Malmgren, associate director for RainCity Housing said they will be operating the supportive housing and they also run the 20-bed homeless shelter in Sechelt.

“A number of our clients who are currently accessing our services at the shelter will be moving into that supportive housing building. There are some clients who will continue to stay at the shelter who haven’t met the requirements to move into supportive housing and we anticipate that that shelter will fill back up immediately once people move out due to the need in the community.”

Malmgren said to access the supportive housing units, people have to be 19 years of age or older, they have to be experiencing homelessness or are at risk of homelessness and need the supports that are being offered at the new complex.

Those supports include onsite meals, help with complex physical health needs and medication dispensing, goal setting and case planning which can include things like training for jobs, or getting healthy and there’s help with other home care needs.
