Time to attack invasive plants

It’s the time of year when the City of Nanaimo works with community groups to combat invasive plants.

They will be out in parks and offering “drop zones” for invasive plants from homeowners for disposal as a way to encourage and raise awareness of the impact of invasive plants in the parks and natural areas.

Invasive plants have the potential to negatively impact local ecosystems and they include English ivy, Scotch broom, and Himalayan blackberry as well as Knotweed and Giant Hogweed.

If you are interested in participating in any of the scheduled work parties or would like to coordinate one on your own, you can register through the City website.

Residents are encouraged to register for the work parties held April 25, May 4, May 10 and June 1st at various locations.
