It's Polar Bear time!

If you’re thinking ahead, and looking for a way to shake off the effects of any Christmas Day over-indulgences you could try a cold plunge.

Continuing a 54 year tradition, Nanaimo is holding its Polar Bear Swim on Boxing Day.  The Frank Ney Memorial Boxing Day Polar Swim is at Departure Bay Beach starting at 11am.

Jessica Philips is one of the organizers she says it’s always a good time, and it tends to draw a big crowd.  She also says this year’s event will include a 50/50 draw benefiting area women’s shelters.

Traditional New Year’s Day Polar Bear Swims are planned at Parksville Beach on the mid-Island and Armours Beach, Davis Bay Beach, and Seafarer’s Park in Pender Harbour on the Sunshine Coast.
