Ground work to begin on affordable housing project in Gibsons

The affordable housing project at 571 Shaw Road will take a step forward tomorrow (Thurs) in Gibsons.

Surveying on the site is slated to begin.

A feasibility analysis showed the total cost of the project to be around 9 million dollars.

It’s hoped the project can be built with funds from the BC Housing and the federal government.

It could result in the creation of 40 rental apartments consisting of a mix of one, two and three-bedroom units.

The Sunshine Coast Affordable Housing Society would operate and manage the buildings.

The next step in the process is preparing the grant application to senior governments.

The Town of Gibsons is supporting the project by putting up the land on Shaw Road, providing some funding for planning and a letter of support for the Society’s applications to the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation and BC Housing.
