Ocean Vegetables putting down roots for a second growing season

The Victoria Day long weekend marked the start of gardening season for a lot of people, and Sechelt’s Ocean Vegetables Community Garden kicked off its second year with a traditional blessing, workshops and a planting party.

Ocean Vegetables has an expanding number of raised planters in the boulevard that runs along Ocean Avenue, beside Sechelt Elementary School.  Coordinator Kim Chi says unlike a typical community garden, where people take a plot and grow for themselves, this garden is grown by volunteers and the veggies are free for the picking.

Ocean Vegetables has also launched a Facebook page this season, to keep people up to date.
