Seawatch nightmare continues

An evacuation order comes into effect tomorrow afternoon for Seawatch residents in Sechelt.

The District of Sechelt, acting on the advice of an engineering report, made the decision to issue an alert a week ago and two days ago turned it into an order that takes effect Friday.

Residents have been trying to move out all week and dozens of community members have been volunteering to help.

The order is official at one’clock and then after that, a fence will be put up with a gate that will be locked.

Only police and firefighters will have access to the area.

Thurber Engineering concluded, in a report issued to the District in early February, a sinkhole collapse is a high probability and that could result in potential injury or death.

The report went on to say the risk to the public was unacceptably high.

In the thick of all the action, calls for someone to be held accountable continue.
