Environment Canada forecasting a prolonged period of snow

Environment Canada has issued another snowfall warning for our region.

Meteorologist, Armel Castellan says it will have similar consequences the last system that blew through our region.

A long period of snowfall is forecast with total amounts of 15 to 25 centimeters expected.

This disturbance will spread snow to virtually the entire South Coast with heaviest amounts falling tonight on Vancouver Island and the North Shore.

Mainroad and Capilano crews are out on the roads with priority highways first on the list, then bus routes and commercial routes.

BC Transit buses are running but the service is scaled back a bit to winter routing.

BC Ferries has canceled the last round trips for today due to the snowfall.

That includes the 9:35 pm ferry departing Langdale and the 10:55 departing Horseshoe Bay and the 8:45 Departure Bay to Horseshoe Bay and the 10:50 departing Horseshoe Bay and the 8:15 departing Duke Point and the 10:45 departing Tsawwassen.

BC Ferries says the cancelations are due to the expected deteriorating weather conditions and snow forecast.

Canada Post has issued, what it calls, a Yellow Alert for our region.

A yellow alert means posties will do their best to deliver the mail, but there may be delays.
