Snowfall warning in effect

Bands of heavy snow are hitting the Island and the Sunshine Coast.

Up to 20 centimeters could fall in Nanaimo and the Sunshine Coast could see 25.

The Trans Canada highway from the West Shore Parkway to Mill Bay has reopened.

Mainroads is out on the Island and says there are white out conditions and it’s a good idea to stay home if you don’t have to drive.

Many of the ferries are holding in dock until it is safe to cross, so it’s a good idea to check the schedule if you must travel.

BC Transit likely is not a reliable option tonight either, although there’s no service notices currently on the site for our listening areas.

Flights into and out of both the Nanaimo and Vancouver airports are being cancelled, although some are listed as leaving, or arriving, on time yet.

It would be a good idea to check the status of the flight you are interested in before heading out.

Both School District 46 and School District 68 have decided to keep schools closed Monday.

There are some small pockets of power outages on the Island, but most are in Victoria.
