School districts on the Sunshine Coast and Vancouver Island are looking to implement new mental health programs.

Both school districts received funding from the province to help get the more programs rolling.

Vanessa White, Director of Instruction for Student Services at School District 46 says they $35,000 and this will help both the students and staff.

“We know that 1 in 5 people deal with mental health challenges,” said White.

“That impacts our students and staff in a huge way. We see it in the classrooms, we hear about it from home and more support and resources are really important.”

The money will also be used to train school staff on mental health response skills.
