Students at Langdale Elementary had a chance to visit the Nicholas Sontag Marine Education Centre for free thanks to BC Ferries.

Mika Desloges, Manager of Public Relations with BC Ferries says some grade 4 students wrote to the CEO of their company and asked him to remove plastic straws from the ferries.

Mark Collins was impressed and rewarded them with the free field trip.

“The students had the chance to see 30 live exhibits at the centre,” said Desloges.

“It was quite impressive. We were impressed with the students’ leadership and their environmental stewardship. We listen to our customers and always appreciate their feedback.”

BC Ferries is looking to remove plastic straws and transition to paper straws in the next few weeks.
