Mental health calls keeping Nanaimo RCMP busy

Calls related to mental health issues remain a major problem for Nanaimo RCMP.

That’s what Superintendent Mark Fisher told Nanaimo Council Monday night, as he shared the detachment’s policing priorities for 2014/2015.

Fisher says many of the recent violent crimes over the last couple weeks have been linked to mental health problems.

Fisher also says Nanaimo has been selected as one of three places in BC in line for a new “Integrated Domestic Violence Unit”, which will include an officer working full time with the Haven Society.
