The City of Nanaimo’s plan to purchase a large swath of Linley Valley is getting praise from a local group that’s been fighting development in the area.
Mayor John Ruttan announced during Monday night’s Council meeting that the City is trying to acquire 90 hectares west of Cottle Lake Park, and has option agreements with the property owners.
Joanne Jonas McRae of Save Linley Valley West says it’s great news.
McCrae says the group is still working to save a section of bluffs next to an area currently being subdivided by Mount Benson Developments.
Council will vote on freeing up $9-million from reserves when it meets again May 26th.
