Powell River, Sunshine Coast MLA Nicholas Simons is predicting the government will close debate on a bill that would make controversial changes to the Agricultural Land Commission.
Bill 24 would split the commission into two zones, with looser rules for protecting farmland in the zone that covers the resource rich North, Interior and Kootenays.
Simons, the NDP Agriculture Critic, says the plan has widespread opposition, despite some changes offered by the Liberals.
Simons says he expects the debate to continue all week in the Legislature, but he also says the government seems unwilling to hear what’s coming out of that debate and they’ll probably close off debate after the Victoria Day break.
