Nanaimo and area Kettle Campaign really short of volunteers

The Salvation Army’s Dawn Anderson said they have 56 openings for Kettle shifts Thursday, Friday and Saturday from North Nanaimo to Cedar and Ladysmith.

She said people tell her taking on a two and a half hour shift is gratifying volunteer work.

“People think it’s fabulous, they have so much fun doing it and reconnect with people they haven’t seen in years. They have a real good, feel good, feeling helping us to raise money to support the work we do.”

Anderson says, “One woman did it with her daughter outside, and the daughter said mom, it’s cold out here. Her mom said, you know what sweetie, realize we are only out here for two and a half hours and there are people who have to live out on the streets all night. There was no more complaining after that!”

Anderson says it takes between 700 and 900 volunteers to pull off the Kettle Campaign annually.

The fundraiser is the biggest one for the Sally Ann and they are hoping to raise 250,000 dollars this year.

To volunteer, call Anderson at 250-740-1004 or 250-716-6595.
