A changeup in the timeline to install a new water supply well in Gibsons

It appears Gibsons residents living in Zone 3 of the town could get their water from the Gibsons aquifer earlier than expected.

Right now, those residents rely on the SCRD’s Chapman system.

The town’s Director of Infrastructure Dave Newman told council this week if it’s done sooner, along with the monitoring well, the town will save some money.

“We’ll have the drilling rigs already mobilized and it’s going to be more cost effective if we get to the project sooner,” said Newman as the test well was originally planned for 2020.

“Once the project is complete that’ll help us with supplying Zone 3 with adequate water.”

Newman says until the town gets the supply well drilled and tested, they won’t be able to apply for a water license with the province

Drillwell Enterprises is getting the $203,493 contract to do this work.
