No signs of a Gibsons homeless shelter yet

Although a homeless shelter in Gibsons was opened up in January of this year, there’s still no indication if it will reopen for this winter.

Funding is needed for the shelter to open up. And it was the Provincial government who provided that money earlier this year.

“We haven’t addressed all of the issues around homelessness yet,” said Powell River-Sunshine Coast MLA Nic Simons.

“The housing minister is aware that this project needs to move forward. We have a need for shelter and Gibsons has been identified where that need is great. I’m not sure why there’s a delay but I am working on it.”

A 15-bed homeless shelter that was operated by Raincity staff opened up on January 22nd and closed on March 31st this year.
