Pedestrian seriously injured in early morning incident

A 26-year-old man was seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle while crossing the Highway 19A at Mostar Road.

RCMP say the incident happened around 1:30 this (Fri) morning and resulted in the intersection being closed for several hours.

Mounties say based on independent witness statements, and with the driver of the vehicle involved, it appears the victim was attempting to cross Highway 19A against the red light and with no pedestrian walk light.

The driver of the vehicle involved, a 51-year-old Nanaimo woman, was not injured in the incident.

Her vehicle, a newer model Dodge Dart. was towed from the scene and will undergo a mechanical inspection.
