Gibsons looks to introduce policies and bylaw for cannabis dispensaries

The Town of Gibsons is looking to introduce a new bylaw dealing with cannabis dispensaries.

As of now, the town is dealing with four different applicants who want to sell the product in the town.

The idea of this bylaw was brought up by councillor Aleria Ladwig and Mayor Bill Beamish is supportive of the idea.

“One of the directions we gave to staff was to come back to council with a plan to develop a policy and have a dialogue with the community,” said Beamish.

“We want a policy and bylaw around cannabis stores. It’s not something that we have right now. There will be lots of opportunities coming up for cannabis stores to be established.”

Cannabis shops are currently banned in every zone of the town, but they can apply for a temporary use permit to operate in the community.
