ICF holds town hall meetings in Nanaimo and Parksville

The Town Hall meetings with regards to Island rail will come to Nanaimo Monday night.

Island Corridor Foundation CEO Larry Stevenson explained what the informal discussions are about.

“The intent of the town halls is to have a really open and frank discussion about what the ICF is, what it does, what it is supposed to be doing and probably some of the history and to really talk about where we are at today with rail, what the future looks like and what we need to do in order to get rail re=established on the Island.”

Stevenson said they have had meetings with Premier John Horgan about a rail option on the Island.

“The province is looking at it. We all know they are looking at a number of transportation options on the Island and rail is only one of those options. He’s (Premier John Horgan) is cautious and I think he’s cautious for good reason. There’s been a lot of studies done on this particular issue. There’s been a lot of business cases made. There’s been a lot of talk out there, some of it true some of it not true. And, he wants to be sure we have a plan that’s going to work.”
