Members of the Ladysmith Resource Centre Association are over the moon.
That’s according to the president of the Association, Marsh Stevens.
He was commenting after the province announced the proposed affordable housing project in the community would be getting 3 point 6 million dollars from the B.C. Community Housing Fund.
Stevens says it’s a long road yet, but it’s energizing for all the work the community has done on the project so far.
“They don’t just give you the money and say have at it, they give you the money and tether you to a mortgage with conditions.”
That’s how the province will ensure the housing remains affordable.
The Ladysmith affordable housing project aims to build 36 homes for people with disabilities, for families and seniors.
Stevens says because BC Housing demands the building is built to standards above the normal building code, it will likely be two years or more before there’s any kind of ribbon cutting.
In Sechelt, the Sunshine Coast Lions Society will get 10 point 4 million dollars to build 104 homes for seniors.
