Minister of State for Child Care visits Sechelt daycare

For the next 18th months, two child care facilities on the Sunshine Coast will be able to offer affordable child care services.

This is possible due to the Early Learning and Child Care Agreement between the federal and provincial government.

“More than 300 organizations applied for this funding and we’re excited to see how this pilot project will play out,” said Katrina Chen, Minister of State for Child Care who visited the Tiny Tots Daycare in West Sechelt today.

“So the main purpose of these sites is to learn how to build a universal childcare system. We want to know what are the needs of the providers, the parents and the operational needs of running the different type of centres.”

Susan Bell who runs the Tiny Tots daycare in Sechelt said this funding couldn’t have come at a better time.

“We’re very thankful to have been chosen. Especially because of the impact it’s already having on the families. It’s really hard when people are struggling and you have to give them their daycare bill, but I mean you have to make a living too.”

The other daycare that received funding for this on the Sunshine Coast is the Espirit Daycare in Gibsons.

53 different BC organizations were accepted for this funding for through this agreement. And the idea is to offer childcare services at no more than $200 a month per child at these facilities.
