Two officers injured and police car damaged as police recover stolen truck

Two Nanaimo RCMP members were slightly injured when the car they were in was struck by another police car.

It was during a procedure to stop a man in a stolen truck around 2 o’clock yesterday (Wed) afternoon.

Police planned to surround the vehicle at a red light at the intersection of the Island Highway and Northfield Road but one of the police cars from a neighbouring detachment had a mechanical failure with its brakes and struck the side door of another RCMP car.

Two officers received minor injuries during the collision but did not require hospitalization but the car they were in had significant damage.

The 26-year-old suspect in the stolen vehicle was arrested and in the truck, police found a replica gun, ammunition, knives and a quantity of suspected cocaine.
