Restuarant owner paints picture of slow winter season for Gibsons Council

The debate over the George Hotel project continues in Gibsons, as Town Council hears from those for and against; even when the project isn’t on the agenda.

Tuesday night it was a local restuarant owner.

Stafford Lumley of Smitty’s Oyster House says he thinks his business is a “microcosm” of others in the Landing, and it’s a struggle to get by in the off season.

Using full colour graphs Lumley explained the only time his revenue tops expenses is from June to August… and he says having a big hotel downtown could be a difference maker.

The Town is waiting for reports on things like possible impacts to the aquifer before moving to the next step in the approval process for the project.
