Halloween advice from the police

Mounties want drivers and kids to be safe for Halloween.

“It’s getting dark so quick now so visibility should be a major focus for trick or treaters,’ said Constable Karen Whitby with the Sunshine Coast RCMP.

“Try and wear a bright coloured costume. If you don’t have that you can wear reflective tape on your ankles or carrying a flashlight always works well. One of the big things for kids who are going door to door, try and stay on one side of the street and not be darting out across.”

Other advice includes if you’re going trick or treating, try and go with a big group and wait until your candy is checked by an adult before you eat them.

Drivers are being asked to slow down at night and be especially cautious around residential areas.

On the Sunshine Coast, fireworks are also banned and you could get a $250 fine for using them.
