Vancouver Coastal Health is hoping for a better outcome for the flu season.
Dr. Emily Newhouse noted the last couple of seasons were quite severe.
“The virus was going around in the community, there were many serious hospitalizations and deaths as well,” said Dr. Newhouse.
“Our fingers are crossed that this year’s flu season won’t be as severe as the last couple of seasons. We still have to recommend that no matter how severe the season is, there are some serious outcomes and that’s why you should get a flu shot every year.”
She also said flu season is already underway and free flu shots are available.

Some other advice she provided included washing your hands, stay home if you suspect you’re sick and try and avoid hospitals unless it’s necessary.
