New pump station assures water will be there for Nanoose Bay

There’s a reason why there’s been no growth on the Nanoose peninsula.

It’s a lack of water.

Now the Regional District of Nanaimo will be constructing a new 2 point 2 million dollar pump station that will bring drinking water from the Englishman River to the residents of the Nanoose Bay Peninsula Water Service Area on a year-round basis.

Murray Walters, manager of water services with the RDN said the new pump station will come online after the Englishman River Water Service and the City of Parksville finish their intake and water treatment plant project sometime in 2019.

“The upshot of this new pumphouse is that once the joint venture finishes their intake work and their new water treatment work across the highway in the City of Parksville area, our share of that is to get a bunch more water from that system than we are getting now which will allow us to provide water to the peninsula and allow it to continue to grow.”

Construction on the new pump station is expected to begin later this month and wrap up in March of 2019.
