Two dead bear cubs in Halfmoon Bay within five days

Within a five day period, two bear cubs have died in the Halfmoon Bay area.

Both cubs were hit by a car in the north end of Redroofs Road where it meets the highway.

“The latest cub was killed on Tuesday night (Oct 9th) and the cubs were a part of a family of four that had been living there for a while,” said Conservation Officer Dean Miller.

“When bears get around highways and urban areas, one or two of the cubs get killed quite frequently by a motor vehicle. So from our perspective, we want to encourage the public to control their fruit, control their garbage so we can keep the bears out of our community so they can stay out in the wilderness where it’s safe.”
