It's Emergency Preparedness Week

It’s Emergency Preparedness Week and local emergency experts are reminding everyone to use this week to get ready in case disaster ever strikes.

Jani Drew is the Emergency Program Coordinator for the Regional District of Nanaimo. She says the first step in knowing the risks.

Drew says says there’s a list of 26 simple steps on their website to help everyone prepare for an emergency.

Bill Elsner is the Emergency Program Coordinator for the Sunshine Coast Regional District. He says forest fires are the biggest risk facing residents. He says cleaning out eaves-troughs and clearing woody debris away from your home can help prevent fires from spreading. Elsner says you should also have enough food, water and supplies to last at least week.
