Sunshine Coast RCMP looking at RID 911

Impaired driving incidents have dominated recent weekly reports from Sunshine Coast RCMP, and the detachment commander says he’s looking at a program that’s having success in Nanaimo and elsewhere.

Report Impaired Drivers, or RID, 911 is an initiative of Mothers Against Drunk Driving. The idea is pretty simple; they want people who spot a possible impaired driver to call 911.

Staff Sergeant Herb Berdahl of Sunshine Coast RCMP says MADD has found out that a lot of people don’t think they’re allowed to.

Sunshine Coast RCMP are working on their priorities for the coming year, and Berdahl told the Regional District Policing Committee that as well as impaired driving they’ll continue to focus on speeding and “stunting” like burnouts and street racing
