I am a long-time resident of Nanaimo. I was born here and grew up in Coombs, BC. I have lived in Nanaimo since 1979 and have operated a law practice as well as serving as the MLA for Nanaimo-Parksville (1991-96) and for Nanaimo (2005 – present).

My work as an MLA, and in helping to raise our family here has given me a deep knowledge of Nanaimo and its neighbourhoods, its many volunteer organizations, and the business community.

Along the way, I have served on a number of local organizations, including being Chair of the Nanaimo United Way Campaign.

Why did you decide to run for the mayors’ chair?

Clearly, the past four years have been difficult and disappointing years for Nanaimo. There is an overwhelming desire amongst residents for a fresh start and the restoration of good governance.

I believe that I possess the experience and skills required to lead a new Council with the objective of bringing civic pride, optimism, investment and progress to Nanaimo.

What do you think are the most important issues in Nanaimo?

Nanaimo residents and businesses are looking for open honest and respectful governance. A Council that is respectful of taxpayers is key to addressing issues of housing affordability, homelessness, and downtown revitalization.

Local and regional transportation needs, the building of relationships with the Snuneymuxw First Nation, and with other major public institutions such as the Port, Airport, University and VIHA are vital if we are to deal effectively with local issues and opportunities and with other levels of government.

Do you live within the City of Nanaimo?

Yes, since 1979.

Do you have a website or Facebook page where people can get more information about you and what is it?

Raymon Farmere

Why did you decide to run for the mayors’ chair?

My decision to run for office is because I want to help make a difference in the develop of Nanaimo
to create a Nanaimo that cares about what all classes of people have to say. A Nanaimo
that will prosper and grow and move in a clear direction.

What do you think are the most important issues in Nanaimo?

We need to be able to more effectively pass improvement projects through our local government. Such as
low  income housing, back to school programs, improving the look of our downtown which was kind of forgotten
about during the 1970’s merger. I want to work council and the people to do all of these things
most important I want hear what the people of Nanaimo the voters have to say.

Do you live within the City of Nanaimo?

Yes I have lived in Nanaimo for the last 15 years on and off. I love it here.
