Crowder joins renewed call for federal inquiry on missing and murdered women

The Federal Government is facing new demands for an inquiry into murdered and missing aboriginal women.

According to the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network the RCMP is now investigating more than a thousand cases, not the 600 first thought.

Nanaimo Cowichan MP Jean Crowder, the NDP Aboriginal Affairs Critic, was among those calling for action in Parliament.

The Public Safety Minister isn’t committing to an inquiry. Instead, he shot back by criticizing the NDP for not supporting the budget which includes 25-million to help stop violence against aboriginal women.

The RCMP hasn’t commented.
