Hotel on Gordon Street moving forward

The City of Nanaimo has announced PEG Development is moving forward with their plans for a hotel at 100 Gordon Street.

The company has submitted an updated building permit for their nine-storey “Courtyard by Marriot” project and this one shows an increase in the number of guest rooms from 155 to 172 rooms.

Mayor Bill McKay says he takes that as a vote of confidence in the community and it shows Nanaimo is a popular place to invest.

The City is anticipating to approve the most recent building permit by the end of October.

Under the Purchase Agreement, the City has the option to repurchase the property if PEG has not spent one million dollars on physical improvements to the property by December of 2019.
