Along with subjects like affordable housing, seniors care, there were also discussions about the opioid crisis that’s impacting our communities at the UBCM convention.
“There are still many improvements we need to make when it comes to this opioid crisis,” said SCRD Board Chair Bruce Milne who attended the convention in Whistler.
“I don’t think people realize how much this tragedy is having an effect on the province. Certainly, in Sechelt, we’ve had a couple of deaths and some emergency room visits relating to opioids. It’s something that we want to watch carefully and I think there’s a stronger move to realize that this is a medical emergency.”
Milne also adds there’s a need to find the resources to address this crisis because three to four British Columbians die from the opioid crisis on a daily basis and that needs to be fixed.
