Home based business bylaws under review

The City of Nanaimo is reviewing its home-based business bylaw.

To help inform that review the City’s Economic Development Office will be using information from a recent survey of local home-based businesses and hosting an open house to go over proposed changes.

Economic Development Officer, Amrit Manhas said the bylaw hasn’t been updated since 1993 and deals with the space you can use for a home-based business and the number of employees allowed to work at the site, among other things.

She said some areas need clarifying and tightening up.

Manhas said the intent of the bylaw review is to ensure a balance between home-based businesses and the people who live in the neighbourhood.
